JDM is an accomplished professional surfer, competing around the world including the Pipeline contests and on the European Professional Surfing Circuit. Originally from Portugal João founded the well respected surf school Praia Grande Surf Academia and worked as the Portuguese National Coach in ’02 and ’04.
Today, João lives in San Francisco, and is well known charger at Mavericks in Half Moon Bay. Day to day he develops programs for a non-profit called Save The Waves’ including the groundbreaking World Surfing Reserves program, as well as its Surfonomics program. Most impressively Joao is the creator the Method7 surf coaching technique and the author of “How To Be A Surfer.”
